Our Lady of Expectation: my approach

The bas-relief of Our Lady of Expectation was created at a time when many of my relatives and friends were getting married.

I wanted to celebrate those budding loves through an image that is rare in sculpture and which moves me deeply: a pregnant Virgin Mary, imbued with tenderness and humanity.

I imagined a joyful Mary, full of gratitude, travelling towards Bethlehem with her donkey. In her gaze, we can sense her thoughts turning to a mystery greater than herself — a simple young woman from Palestine, chosen to bear the Messiah and thus become the mother of God.
